King Kuhl Weekend (Day 2)

After a wild night of weather while celebrating the career of my friend King Kuhl, we woke up the next day with nothing special on the agenda.  We had one more night in Davenport, Iowa before heading home and we wanted to take in some local sights.  King Kuhl really had nothing planned other than taking us to his favorite Mexican restaurant and drinking some beers, so I offered up a visit to the Worlds Largest Truck Stop off I-80 in Walcott, Iowa.

First up was lunch at Cabo Cantina and Grill in Eldridge, Iowa.  You honestly couldn't ask for a nicer group of people running a restaurant and the food was great too.  I can see why this was King Kuhl's favorite taco joint.

The staff there had fun with us and even let us take their sombreros off the wall to wear.  We called the group El Guapo Kuhl and his Gringo Army.

King Kuhl (um I mean El Guapo Kuhl) looked great with his sombrero.

After loading up on some tacos we headed over to the World Largest Truck Stop in Walcott, Iowa.  I planned on going last summer as I drove back from California, but ended up detouring to visit friends in Minneapolis.  So I missed out.  Anyone who knows me knows I love "Worlds Largest" things.  So this was great that I was finally able to go.

Upon arriving at the truck stop we headed over to the Iowa 80 Trucking Museum.  This is located across the parking lot from the Truck Stop.

As far as free museums go, this one was one of the best.  I gave a $5 donation and it was well worth it.  It is an amazing museum with tons of really cool trucks I've never seen before.  It's likely you haven't seen many of these gems as well.  I took a lot of pictures, but these are my favorites.

This was a really cool Coke delivery truck.

As a guy who wants to live on the road, seeing an old school truck with a sleeper insert made me so happy.

This Jeep Honcho was amazing.  I WANT ONE!!!

This police car was awesome.  There were little holes in the window to stick guns out of and shoot through.  Very awesome!!!

This was a very unique looking moving van.  Look at how close the axles are!

This was a look down the great hall of trucks at the Iowa 80 Trucking Museum.  Beautiful and amazing!

I'm also a sucker for old school gas pumps.  So seeing these ones as I exited the museum was fun.

After going to the museum, we went to the Iowa 80 Truck Stop.

I didn't take too many picture inside as I didn't want to look too touristy, but there was a ton of food, souvenirs, and truck supplies in the truck stop.  It was huge and fun to walk around.

There was some cool artwork on a truck inside the truck stop that was worthy of a picture.

After walking around, the guys and I grabbed some ice cream at Dairy Queen and then headed back to chill out before dinner.

We grabbed dinner at The Tangled Wood and the food there was great.  We had so many laughs over pizza and beer.

We ended the day back at King Kuhl's house enjoying a special beer that was made at his church.  He was so excited to share it with me and I was very thankful he did.  I always have fun sharing a beer with friends and knowing this came from his church made it even more special.

We ended up the night by laughing at a picture that some of the guys got drawn of King Kuhl when in Las Vegas last month.  We laughed because he looks like the love child of Paul Prudhomme and Dom DeLuise.  Classic laughs!!!

Overall it was a damn good day hanging out with some long time friends and celebrating the career of King Kuhl.  It was a bummer I had to leave the next day.

FINALLY Visiting an Elusive Museum and Coming Home (Day 16)

One of the places I have always wanted to visit was the RV Hall of Fame and Museum in Elkhart, Indiana.  I know it sounds silly, but I have...
