After a wild night of weather while celebrating the career of my friend King Kuhl, we woke up the next day with nothing special on the agenda. We had one more night in Davenport, Iowa before heading home and we wanted to take in some local sights. King Kuhl really had nothing planned other than taking us to his favorite Mexican restaurant and drinking some beers, so I offered up a visit to the Worlds Largest Truck Stop off I-80 in Walcott, Iowa.
First up was lunch at Cabo Cantina and Grill in Eldridge, Iowa. You honestly couldn't ask for a nicer group of people running a restaurant and the food was great too. I can see why this was King Kuhl's favorite taco joint.
After loading up on some tacos we headed over to the World Largest Truck Stop in Walcott, Iowa. I planned on going last summer as I drove back from California, but ended up detouring to visit friends in Minneapolis. So I missed out. Anyone who knows me knows I love "Worlds Largest" things. So this was great that I was finally able to go.
Upon arriving at the truck stop we headed over to the Iowa 80 Trucking Museum. This is located across the parking lot from the Truck Stop.
As far as free museums go, this one was one of the best. I gave a $5 donation and it was well worth it. It is an amazing museum with tons of really cool trucks I've never seen before. It's likely you haven't seen many of these gems as well. I took a lot of pictures, but these are my favorites.
This was a really cool Coke delivery truck.
After going to the museum, we went to the Iowa 80 Truck Stop.
We ended the day back at King Kuhl's house enjoying a special beer that was made at his church. He was so excited to share it with me and I was very thankful he did. I always have fun sharing a beer with friends and knowing this came from his church made it even more special.
We ended up the night by laughing at a picture that some of the guys got drawn of King Kuhl when in Las Vegas last month. We laughed because he looks like the love child of Paul Prudhomme and Dom DeLuise. Classic laughs!!!
Overall it was a damn good day hanging out with some long time friends and celebrating the career of King Kuhl. It was a bummer I had to leave the next day.
