Day 14 started off real early. The girls had to get on a flight from Milwaukee back to Maryland and the flight left at 6:30am. So we got up at 4:30am and got them ready and off to the airport. Once I dropped them off around 5:15am, I went back to the hotel to chill out. It was too early to go anywhere. I followed the girl's flight back east and watched their airplane dodge thunderstorms.
I have a good friend who I love to hang with that lives in Milwaukee. He goes by the name of K9. I had hung out with him when I was driving home from California in the summer of 2021 and also when I went to Iowa for King Kuhl's retirement in March of 2022. He's a great friend who is a lot of fun and I was staying in Milwaukee for a couple days to hang out with him and go to the Def Leppard / Motley Crue / Poison / Joan Jett concert the next day. We had been trying to go to that concert for 2 years but COVID screwed that up.
On this day, I said I wanted to go with him to the town of New Glarus, Wisconsin. He and his wife have never been there before even though they've lived in Milwaukee for a couple years. Unfortunately, the world famous New Glarus Brewing Company was closed on this day, but I wanted to go to the Glarner Stube restaurant with them.
I love going to New Glarus as it's a really cool Swiss style village here in the United States. The Glarner Stube serves up some of the best food you can get. We showed up, got a parking spot right out front, but were told there was going to be a wait. So we went to the shop next door to get a beer and wait for our table.
The place we went to was the Rusty Raven gift shop. They served up beer in there and it was fun to walk around their shop with a beer in hand. The staff and vibe in this shop was awesome!!! They even had a dog hanging out looking for a beer (and treats).
Soon enough our table was ready at the Glarner Stube. I was so excited. I got my New Glarus beer and a schnitzel and I was a happy man. Lunch was so damn good.
Before leaving I had to recycle my beer at the Largest Urinal in the Midwest. That thing is a monster and my photo does it no justice.
With a belly full of beer and meat and the weather as beautiful as it could be, we decided to walk through to the town to the Swiss Historical Village. This is a fun area that is well worth the stop. It goes over how the town of New Glarus was settled in 1845 by people leaving the town of Glarus in Switzerland. There are so many artifacts here showing what life was like at that time.
After doing a bit of learning, we walked back down to downtown New Glarus to walk around the shops. I snagged some really good Bienenstich. It was so thick and good and super sugary. I loved it!
After walking around, it was time to head back to the Milwaukee area. I was spending the night at K9's house in Oconomowoc, a suburb just west of Milwaukee. K9 and his wife wanted to show me the downtown area in their town. They had a band playing and were serving up some beers. It was a lot of fun.
After that, we went back to his house to get ready for dinner. We ended up going to a place called Lucky Chucky's Beach Bar and Grill. He said they were having a "block party" there. Little did we know, that it was not a "block party", but rather a band named Block Party was playing. We laughed so hard! I did not get any pictures of our time there, but it was fun hanging out with K9 and his wife.
After dinner, we went back to his house to crash. I was tired having gotten up at 4:30am. So I fell right asleep as soon as I got into bed.
